Grandma the Business Advisor #2

“We don’t know what we don’t know”

You have all heard those provocative words when you were considering the next steps needed to run your business.  Well, you have a lot of company when it comes to having to make decisions without adequate information.  Way back when, Grandma would use those words when we were trying to figure out what to do next.  We didn’t really know what she meant, but it did sound wise enough at the time.  (Kind of like when Grandpa would say, “keep your powder dry”.)

    • Discovery is key
    • Ranking is critical
    • Planning only happens after discovery

It is critical to business success that you know the facts that are driving the issues you face in business.  Do you have a repeatable process in place to ‘discover’ and rank the issues that you need to address every year in order to maximize your business?  What tools do you use to assure that you and your team are on the same page in dealing with issues?  Do you all agree on what is most important?  Will you know when you have successfully dealt with the issues?

We really would like to “know what we don’t know” and the good news is that we can, when we have the right process.
